Artist-in-Residence: Jairo Dealba
April 1 – 30 2025

Visit the art studio to see the vibrant canvases of our April artist-in-residence Jairo Dealbra. Jairo will be in the studio periodically throughout the month of April. Stop by to ask about his process and his artistic inspiration, or grab a Dealba-inspired coloring sheet and create your own masterpiece.
OPEN CALL for Artists
Application period through May 20, 2025
The Leonardo and Artes de Mexico en Utah invite Latinx artists living in Utah to submit an application to our 2025 – 2026 Artist-in-Residence Program. We accept 6 artists per year who are at any stage in their careers. The Leonardo will display each artist’s work for 2 nonconsecutive months and pays $350 per month (total $700). Artists are required to spend 16 hours per month (4 days for 4 hours) in The Leonardo Art Studio engaging with guests. The Leonardo and Artes de Mexico will provide social media advertising and interviews for each month of residency. This is a wonderful opportunity for both established and emerging artists to build public rapport and bolster their resumes. Applications will be accepted through May 20, 2025. Artists will be notified by May 28, 2025 of acceptance.

Little Leos
April 6th and April 20th, 11am-1 pm
Included with general admission. Free for members.
Stop by The Leonardo to work on a hands-on craft activity with our wonderful Education staff! This bi-monthly program is best for Little Leos between 3 and 6 years old, accompanied by their parent or guardian.

Asian Art Show: Art Meditating on Nature
Exhibition: April 16th – May 25, 2025
Reception: April 22, 5:00 – 6:30 pm
Included with general admission. Free for members.
Join us to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with the opening of Art Meditating on Nature, an exhibit by Utah artists of Asian descent that honors Eastern art traditions. Walk the gallery, rake the Zen garden, contribute to a collaborative paper bonsai, and enjoy art that reflects on the human connection to the natural world.

Springfest 2025
April 19th, 12pm-4pm

Hop into Spring at The Leonardo!
Flowers are blooming, the sun is shining, and Spring has arrived at The Leonardo! Bring the family and enjoy a full schedule of spring-related activities. Explore the world of mushrooms and learn how to make spore prints with The Mushroom Society of Utah, stop by the Wasatch Beekeepers for a buzzy update on bees, meet a bunny with Ogden Nature Center, and enjoy an Easter Egg Hunt! Don’t forget to swing by the Instrument Petting Zoo in the afternoon, and visit Curiosity Corner to paint and plant terra cotta pots you can take home.

Literary Libations
April 19th, 3pm-5pm
$35/person
Join Bill Allred from Radio From Hell X96, Jim Santangelo from the Wine Academy of Utah, and Ken Sanders for two hours enjoying a curated cocktail paired with this month’s literary pick of choice. We will be discussing one of tour shop favorite authors, Wendell Berry. Ken Sanders considers Berry one of the most important authors of all time. This is a 90 – 120 minute program, recorded live for future broadcast over various podcasts and YouTube channels. Must be 21 years and older to attend.

Leo Libations – Flights n’ Bites ‘Earth Day Wines’
April 24th, 6:30-8pm

Join us for this delightful vegetarian celebration of Earth Day. Savor a perfect blend of smoky and citrus flavors with our Charred Asparagus & Grapefruit Ricotta Crostini, topped with fresh mint. For the main course, a hearty cauliflower steak, with its tender interior and crispy exterior, pairs beautifully with a rich Romesco sauce. A side of nutty, herbed quinoa adds an earthy and nutritious touch to the dish. Conclude your meal with our scrumptious raspberry oil cake with honey and thyme syrup.
This is a 21+ event. ID is required to attend and registration is nonrefundable for those denied entry. Registration will close April 23rd, 2024. No refunds will be offered 48 hours prior to event.

CRAFT – Georgia O’Keeffe’s Red Poppy No.6
April 25th, 7-9pm
$35/person, Members sign-in for discount. Pre-registration is required.
Spring has arrived at The Leo with this step-by-step CRAFT paint night inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe’s famous flowers. Guests will create their own 8 x 10 version of O’Keeffe’s Red Poppy No. VI. Wine, beer, and soda will be available for purchase at the Salt Bistro. Grab a friend and come celebrate the arrival of longer days.

Sensory Inclusive Afternoon
April 30, 2025, 4-6pm
Included with general admission. Free for members.
Join us 4-6 pm for a sensory friendly Leonardo experience. Lights will be dimmed and sounds will be turned down. There will also be sensory friendly activities in the Art Studio.

Dia de los Niños w/Artes de México en Utah

Stop by to participate in the many indoor and outdoor activities during this huge celebration of the world’s children. This partnership event with Artes de Mexico en Utah includes arts and crafts, food, a low rider bicycle demonstration, and community organization outreach.
