Visit the art studio and check out the vibrant cyanotypes, photography, and mixed media of our January artist-in-residence Jazmin Guzman. Jazmin will be in the studio periodically throughout the month of January. Stop by and ask about her process and her artistic inspiration!

STEM Family Day: Sticks and Straw

Saturday, January 11, 2025, 2pm-4pm

Architects and engineers marvel at the complexity of bird’s nests! Join our museum educators to tease apart the structural elements of nests, then engineer your own project by building a bird nesting dispenser perfect for backyard feathered friends. Bird-themed puzzles, arts, and crafts will abound.

CRAFT- David Hockney’s Pearblossom Highway

Sharpen your scissors and break out your paintbrush for this tribute to some of the world’s best collage artists. Inspired by David Hockney’s Pearblossom Highway, guests will create one-of-a-kind collages. Food and drinks will be available to purchase at The Salt Bistro, so don’t miss this evening of CRAFT and conversation!

Little Leos

Stop into the museum for a seasonal craft activity led by our wonderful Education staff! This returning monthly program is best for Little Leos between 2 and 5 years old, accompanied by their parent or guardian.

Art Adventures: Louise Nevelson

January 25, 2025, 2pm-4pm
Included with General Admission. Free for Members.

In this hands-on workshop, young participants will channel innovative sculptor Louise Nevelson to create a 3D mixed media work. With help from our program educators, your child will experiment with new materials as we transform and assemble scraps and found objects into a monochromatic masterpiece.

Leo Libations

January 30, 2025, 6:30-8pm

Pre-registration required.

Start the new year off right with this special wine in review tasting featuring top picks for 2025. Wine Academy of Utah Sommelier Jim Santangelo will provide the pairings for this scrumptious three-course meal of creamy tomato bisque topped with basil and tender, braised short rib with butternut squash puree. For dessert, enjoy a palate cleansing pear and apple fruit tart.

This is a 21+ event. ID is required to attend and registration is nonrefundable for those denied entry. Registration will close January 23rd, 2025.

Sensory Inclusive Afternoon

January 31st, 2025, 3pm – 6pm
Included with General Admission. Free for members.

Join us from 3- 6pm for a sensory friendly Leonardo experience. Lights will be dimmed and sounds will be turned down. There will also be sensory friendly activities in the Art Studio.

Lunar New Year

Feb 1, 2025, 12pm – 4pm
$15/person, includes admission to the museum.

Join us for this fun-filled cultural event celebrating the Year of the Snake! Learn about the science of snakes, and see live snakes with The Hogle Zoo and Ogden Nature Center. Enjoy drop-in calligraphy lessons with local Korean and Chinese artists, participate in free tai chi with the Salt Lake Tai Chi Club, or shape dumplings with the Chinese Society of Science and Technology. Fly our flight simulators, try your hand at the mahjong table, and build a paper pagoda in the art studio. Don’t miss the traditional Lion Dance performed by Bennion Middle School at 3:00pm, and make sure to get a lucky red envelope on your way out!
