How the Batmobile Is Helping Engineers Push the Limits of Creativity

I’ve been asked a certain question throughout my life, more times than I can remember.  The question is,”If you could be any superhero, which one would it be?”.  It hasn’t mattered the age I was or what new superheroes have come out, my answer has always been BATMAN.  I love both sides to Bruce Wayne.  The rich billionaire who has the nice cars, huge house and a butler (I mean who doesn’t want a butler).  And the Batman side, a man who cares so much about the people in his city and saving it from crime that he risks his life on a nightly basis.

Another reason I fell in love with Batman is obvious, the Batmobile.  As I’ve gotten older I’ve wondered if such a car could ever exist.  Not just the look of it, but one filled with rocket launchers, machine guns and a protective shield.  Much to my excitement, Caresto, a Swedish automotive design company, is currently working on a real-life Batmobile.  Built for the 2016 Gumball 3000 rally, this is also the first real-world Batmobile to be built based on the Batmobile design seen in the Arkham Knight video game.  Unlike many real-world-drivable Batmobiles, this one actually comes close to the performance suggested by its exotic looks. Caresto’s Batmobile is based on a Lamborghini drivetrain, a 560 HP V10 with a custom chassis. It’s mid-engined, with very minimal overhangs, and a custom-molded, absurdly intricate all carbon-fiber body.  Just look at this beast:

This car might not have the rocket launchers and machine guns, but it sure comes close the Batmobile seen on the big screen.  This is a perfect example of how superheroes are helping bridge the gap between fiction and real-life technology.  The engineers and creative designers working on this car are pushing the limits of fandom all while developing an incredible automobile.  Isn’t that the point of being fan?  Going to the extreme.  Imagine the kind of fun these men and women are having designing this Batmobile.

As a fan of Batman, I get excited when I see these kinds of projects coming to life.  What type of projects are coming to life based on the superheroes you like?  I’ll bet that everyone who reads this article can think of at least one.  For me, I find that to be incredible.  I mean, isn’t there a saying that goes something like, “If you can dream it, you can build.”?
