Remember these? When I was a kid, this was the whole reason to get on an airplane. Well, that and the peanuts, but really, it was the wings. Sadly, they don’t give these out as frequently now (or, maybe because I’m older, the airlines just don’t think I want one anymore) but these were so cool, back in the day. I remember keeping all of the wings that I owned on my dresser in my room and wondering and hoping that someday, I might be able to take flight.
I think most of us, in some fashion or another, has had a bit of a romance with flying. Whether it was doing the actual piloting of a plane, soaring through the air on a hang glider or even just looking out the window at 35,000 feet, there is something truly spectacular about being up in the clouds. For me, that was often represented by the wings I had in my room which made flying all the more spectacular.
As part of our crowd sourcing campaign for Flight we’re giving a pair of Air Leo wings to everyone who donates $5 to the campaign. In addition, we’re giving away 1 ticket to the new exhibit for a $5 donation. Regularly, tickets are $12.95 so a $5 ticket is a steal.
On another note, The Leonardo has been primarily known as a place for traveling exhibits. We’ve brought you Body Worlds, Mummies of the World, The Dead Sea Scrolls and others. The Flight exhibit is as big, if not bigger, than all of those exhibits. It’s on the same scale. Better yet, since it’s built by The Leonardo, it belongs to the people of Utah. We want this exhibit to be your exhibit. We want you to be proud of it and we can’t wait to show it to you.
So, if you’re anything like me, give the $5, get your ticket and your wings, and let’s take flight together. I promise you it will be one fantastic ride.
