The Leonardo Mission
“The Leonardo is an educational and cultural center
fusing science, technology, and the arts in experiences that inspire
human creativity and innovation.”
The Leonardo takes its name from a man who was many things—a
scientist, an artist, an architect, an inventor, a true explorer. But above
all, Leonardo was endlessly creative and courageous in his exploration of the
world.
The Leonardo’s exhibits and programs are centered upon the belief
that each human being has this same capacity. To help visitors find their own
imaginative voice, their own “Leonardo nature,” the museum will
provide opportunities for young people and adults to explore subjects from a
variety of perspectives, deepening both understanding and personal
relevance.
BODY WORLDS 3 is a perfect example of blending science,
aesthetics and humanity to produce life-changing, “Leonardo”
experiences. More than 25 million visitors have seen the exhibit, and most
have been profoundly affected, and even transformed by what they have seen and
learned.
Gunther von Hagens, creator both of BODY WORLDS and the
ground-breaking scientific process of plastination, which makes the
exhibits possible, said this about Leonardo da Vinci: “His way
of looking at the world and everything in it, allowed for him to
ponder the unseen and bring it to life refracted through his own
imagination.”
Our hope is that visitors to BODY WORLDS 3 at The Leonardo will have this
same experience.
Sincerely,
Peter Giles, Executive Director
The Leonardo
